The Office of Inspector General has announced a nationwide audit to be conducted starting in 2023 relative to hospice beneficiary admissions which are not preceded by a hospital stay or emergency room visit. State Surveyors and Deemed Status Organization’s are being trained and held accountable to ensure the Hospice CoP’s are being followed with emphasis on patient safety. CMS Contractor Post-Payment Medical Review continues to ramp significantly in many areas of the country with profound overpayment determinations being made. CMS is working diligently to implement a required Comprehensive Assessment Tool for hospice – HOPE!
