July 6-15, 2024
OWNER ADMINISTRATOR
CONFERENCE
ON NORWEGIAN DAWN

Medicare Training & Consulting invites you to attend the Owner/Administrator Cruise for Home Care and Hospice. We have been assembling some of the industry’s most experienced and respected professionals for an annual update on compliance with the various laws, regulations, and program guidance issued by CMS, focusing on three primary areas: Reimbursement, Employment, and Marketing.

The seminar training will occur in a conference on the ship’s days at sea. The Medicare proposed 2025 rule will be covered as well as the Final Hospice rule. We are also there to discuss your agency’s issues one-on-one, and no one will charge you for their time. It’s an opportunity to meet and interact with other successful agency owners in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Remember, learning at sea is easier. You’ll see.

Medicare Update

Presented by: Jim Plonsey
Monday, July 8, 2024
8 AM - 10 AM

The landscape of Home Health and Hospice Reimbursement has undergone significant transformations, shaped by dynamic regulatory frameworks and policies designed to enhance patient care and financial sustainability. A pivotal shift has occurred from traditional fee-for-service models to Value-Based Purchasing (VBP), signaling a strategic move towards prioritizing quality outcomes over the sheer quantity of services provided. This transition underscores the industry’s commitment to delivering patient-centered care that aligns with value-driven objectives.

In conjunction with VBP, there has been a concerted effort to optimize payment structures, ensuring greater cost-effectiveness and eliminating inefficiencies in the delivery of home health and hospice services. Simultaneously, heightened scrutiny and compliance measures have been introduced to combat fraud and abuse, with regulatory bodies implementing stringent guidelines to enforce accurate reporting and billing practices. These multifaceted reimbursement changes mirror a broader healthcare trend, emphasizing the importance of value-driven, patient-centric care while encouraging providers to navigate the evolving landscape for sustainable financial viability.

  • More than half of all Medicare beneficiaries are covered by an Advantage Plan. The seminar will show all HHAs how to get adequately reimbursed and get patients back on traditional Medicare. The class will also identify a surefire way to get more reimbursement from Advantage Plans for Therapy Visits.
  • HHA may provide Flu Shots for Medicare and non-medicare patients. The agency must bill the MAC on a UB-04 and will receive 100% reimbursement from medicare
  • Providers can receive this credit for 2020 and 2021 payroll tax credits. Even though the IRS has paused processing the claims, the IRS is still accepting applications. Your local accountant or CPA could have told you they were ineligible for this credit but eligible under an alternative government shutdown mandate.

Wage and hour laws govern the compensation and working hours of employees, ensuring fair pay and appropriate working conditions. These regulations cover aspects such as minimum wage, overtime pay, and record-keeping, safeguarding workers’ rights.

Merger and acquisition (M&A) laws pertain to the legal aspects of combining two or more companies. These regulations ensure transparency, fair competition, and protection of stakeholders’ interests during the consolidation of businesses. Compliance with antitrust laws is crucial to prevent monopolistic practices and promote a competitive market.

Stark and Anti-Kickback laws are designed to combat healthcare fraud and abuse. The Stark Law prohibits physician self-referral, preventing conflicts of interest in medical practices. Anti-Kickback laws prohibit offering, paying, receiving, or soliciting remuneration for patient referrals, safeguarding the integrity of healthcare services and maintaining ethical practices within the industry. Compliance with these laws is essential to uphold the integrity of the healthcare system.
